New filtration setup questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It doesn't seem like that much money. If I can get him to purchase the first media/pads I can have leftover each month, assuming each 13x13 pad lasts four months.
He'd be happy that I'm buying the fish at that point. (Have you seen the price of a fire eel?)

Tannins should not cloud up the water. All they should do is stain it. It sounds like your ich medication may have killed some of your bb. Check the params on the tank to make sure that there is no ammonia spike. The eheim won't help soak up tannins unless it is loaded up with purigen or carbon. It will however give you lots of bio media to help protect your tank from bacteria blooms.

I have not purchased a fire eel in many years. I did however own a 10" fire eel many years ago, and I sold him for $75 on Craigslist.

I was probably mistaking about the tannins, but the water is yellowish.

I haven't checked for ammonia in a while, assuming that I had all of my bacteria with the nitrates still rising. (I didn't do wc's for a week because of the medication.)

Is it cloudy or just yellow? If it's cloudy you have a bacteria bloom. Hopefully it's just the tannins.

Are you done with your treatment. If so, I would do a 50% wc and then check all of the water params tomorrow.
