New GOLIATH pick up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm with the no current guys. I used to run multiple 3200 gph corilias and whenever I turned them off to clean them or an impeller stuck they all (Ts, Vs, and a G) relentlessly bombarded the lids and sides. Looked like I tossed a handful of glitter in there from so many scales being lost.

I won't be giving mine current any longer aside from the normal tank turnover.

The Tiger I have that's in the best shape is my largest Tatf and he's in the smallest tank (180).

So are you guys sure about the current.. Lol

I've got a 3200 gph and a 1600 gph power head and an fx5 and air pump running this tank tank is a hair over 110 gal. Seems like it is churning!
I keep questioning if this is too much.
I saw rob said 50x in the sticky lol
Put the powerhead facing each other, and you'll get yourself a whirlpool lol. I had a Korallia 3 or 2, 750gph in a 60gal tank to help my lil guys from hitting the wall, but once I moved them to the 240gal, I used the same powerhead just to make some surface movement. 50x is insane!

Have you seen the Congo where they live?
Is that a rhetorical question? Seriously, why would you even bring up Congo? Fish in a tank is not as same as Congo. Different pans require different lids!

I gave in and got a few feeders to get him started.
That's good decision. Get him back healthy, over the stress of relocation first, then worry about his diet later. Good thing about atf is that if they already ate fillet, they'll eat it again, even if you disrupt with feeding them live feeders.

You should see this little guy when he hits the current.... it will roll him... I think i will tone it down a bit.

copied from the sticky... maybe this needs modified...lol

In order to provide your ATF the conditions it needs to thrive, you need powerheads, a bubbler, a bubble stick and a very big tank. To achieve a sufficient level of current for your fish, the formula I use and recommend is to take the volume of your tank in gallons and multiply by fifty and this is your ideal level of current. For a 150 gallon tank, the recommended amount of flow would be 150 x 50 = 7500 gallons per hour for an ATF to thrive. For example, the 150 gallon growout in which I currently house my young Goliath ATF has 8,850 gallons per hour of current.

I have not seen with atf yet, but with arowana, exposing to strong current for a while made the tail droop, body bend downward permanently

I already had track record with Rob so I won't poke that, even with a 10-ft pole lol

Maybe it would be best to find people with big ATF and ask them......

Most of my ATF would seek out the dead spots and sit there, as if they didn't much care for the current.

that is what mine is doing. However to break a atf or armatus i think some current is good keeps the pellets or filets in the column of water longer to entice the strike.
