well, I have been surfing this sight for a few weeks now and finally decided to join. This site has so much information that has helped me, its awesome..

Little back ground on me...

I have been fishing sense I was 3. Catching fish out of my stream next to my house and letting them go. To this day, Im still a hardcore fisherman (23 now) and have always loved my fish tanks but my parents wouldnt allow me to get a tank anything bigger then 55 gallons...

well, I moved into my own place about 9 months ago and I have a 125 gallon.

The fish in it currently are a 7" Upside down catfish, 9" Pleco, A few 5" Chiclids, 12" fire eel, 4" Red parrot fish, 8" Albino oscar and a few other small various types of catfish to clean up my bottom gunk...

O yah, I also have two 12-14" Silver arowana's...now, heres my problem....

One Arowana (who is gorgeous btw, Awesome red/blue coloring and great fins) I got this guy when he was about 5". Have owned him for 6 months, now hes 12". Well, yesterday I went to visit a local fish store sense I have been looking for another arowana forever and it just so happened that a local traded in his 14" Silver...well, I couldnt resist. Now, My 12" Arowana that I have grown is being pretty agressive towards the new guy towards the point a few scales have came off and some fins have ripped...so I have seperated them for the time being....My question is, if I change everything in the tank, and make it have a new scenery, will my old Arowana be so protective of "his domain" or will he calm down? I dont want either or to get seriously hurt. Will they calm down? It seems like they go in spurts. One miniute they are rubbing eachother gently and the next my old guy is striking him.

Sorry for the long post BTW!!!

chances are you won't be able to make them coexist peacefully - though there are examples (not many) where two fish coexist. chances are better if there are many aros (i.e more than two). chances increase as you increase the number of aros.

In any case, be prepared to separate if things really escalates. fight to death are not uncommon among two aros.

good luk

When introducing new arowana's to an existing tank or community you should always take out the existing residents and then reintroduce them at the same time as the newcomer. Another good tip is to rearrange the decor so that no one owns the territories when introduced.

My "pair" do the same thing, all rubbing and following each other around, but every once in a while the big one takes a chomp out of the little guy.

thank you. This is exactly what I was wondering.

Keeping silver aros as a pair works about once for every three tries. You can try some of the suggestions but most likely these two will not co exist.

Do you have plans for a bigger tank soon, within 6 month those two aros are going to be pretty crowded in a 125g.

Study their behavior. If any signs of aggression show early, best prepare an extra tank. That or get another Aro, as some people not that numbers of Aros (Most to any kind) higher than 2 are less prone to constant bouts than 2 are.

EDIT: Umm, I'm not sure I'd advise Silver Aros for a long term 55 G.

they were in a 55 as of last night....

now they are in the 125 and are getting along great sense its a new environment for the both of them.

heres my one guy I have grown from 5"

now, Im really worried about my new guy...

he is 14" and when I just bought him a few days ago from the petstore he was in a tank smaller then 55gallons. When I got him, I noticed his tail fin was torn and worn down pretty bad...

well, now its worn right down to his body. Is this a healing process? I am worried that its going to end up killing him.
