now, Im really worried about my new guy...

he is 14" and when I just bought him a few days ago from the petstore he was in a tank smaller then 55gallons. When I got him, I noticed his tail fin was torn and worn down pretty bad...

well, now its worn right down to his body. Is this a healing process? I am worried that its going to end up killing him.

Is it fin rot or a result of them fighting? Pics may help.

I will try and get some pics up later. My water is pretty cloudy right now sense last night I added the bacteria needed for new water.

The new guy tho, even with his fin is acting the same as my 100% healthy guy in the pics...swimming just as much and everything. Although he hasnt eaten yet but its only been 3 days and hes been in 3 different tanks so I dont expect him to eat yet....my healthy guy hasnt ate in a few days as well.

I have the chemicals to enhance healthy fins and what not but sense I already added bacteteria and stuff to the new water I will wait a few days.

What does fin rot look like, and whats the cause? His back and underside fins are worn down a little as well but nothing like the back end one.

actually I have a video I took this morning of them. If you pause it on the new guy in the beginning you can get a clear shot of his fins.

Also, the water was clear this morning, I came home from work and its cloudy as hell. Bacteria going through the cycle?? The tank has been setup for a little under 24 hours.

Did you not cycle the tank?

Chemicals to enhance healthy fins? You don't need to be adding any chemicals, other then a dechlorinator, to keep a healthy aquarium.

I took all the old stones and everything out of my 55 gallon and 39 gallon, put them in the 125. Then I used all 55 gallons of water from that tank, put it in the 125 and the rest was faucet water...however, I just noticed today I forgot to put the carbon in the emperor's carbon filters (4 of them) and also the actual filters...so a few minutes ago I took my old filters out of my 55 and 39 and put them in this one...

the tank also has 3 power heads.

I have always done it this way, for years and years without a problem

The new guy has fin rot, best remedy is ultra clean water. No ammonia, nitrites and nitrate levels under 10ppm. This is gonna be hard considering your tank is not cycled. Is the 55g cycled, if so put the new guy in there and do lots of water changes. If not you'd better plan on daily WCs for the 125g.

Yes, I havent yet. The guy I bought my tank from gave me a box of stuff and I was just going through them and fin chemicals are in there...

But I did add a "top fin" Bacteria supplement for the amount of water and also a dechlorinator like you said.

I also forgot too add that when I set up the tank I added 25 tablespoons of Aquarium salt (says 1 tbs for every 5 US gallons.)
