This is my rhom, had him for about 2 years now, when i got him he was under 2 inches, now about 5.5 inches.

He is in a 10 gallon holder tank ATM while i remodel my living room and dining room, He was raised in a 55 gall. Oddly he seems happier in the small tank. He is not a very entertaining fish. even in the big tank he mostly shoved himself in between some plants and wouldnt move at all during daylight hours. In two years ive never gotten him to eat while im watching. He eats a ton, but he wont do it when anyone is near. He has uber eyesite and will stare at me if there is food in the tank. Even if i stand across the room and stand perfectly still for 10-15 minutes. I been feeding him some leftover nightcrawlers this week, he wont eat them with me in the room, but ill drop them in, go wash my hands and come back and they will be gone...but if i stay there he wont touch it.

Nice Rhom you got there..but I thought they should be bigger in 2 years..um..well every rhom is a little different. still a nice one

I normally underfeed all my fish and reptiles a little. But i dont think he is too small. I chose a black because i was told they only grow about an inch a year and i was tired of fish outgrowing my tank every year. Lately i been giving him a nightcrawler every 2-3 days. When he was in the big tank i gave him usually 10 comets once a week. Now in the holding tank im scared about water quality so i just give him one worm at a time so i know he will eat it all and not have excessive waste.

That's why he is the size that he is. the feeder comets you are giving him are slowing down his growth. I would stick with the night crawlers they are much higher in protein and will not slow down his growth. I would also treat him with prazi pro.. He might have intestinal worms, that would also negatively impact his growth.. All on all it's a nice specimen though..

here is the holding tank he is in now. Another two weeks till renovations are done and i can set up his 55 gallon again.

As far as the slow growth as long as he is healthy i dont really care. I plan to keep him forever, the smaller he is the easier he is to care for. I will be using the nightcrawlers alot more , its so much more convenient and he really likes them. Think there is any supplements i should put in the worm dirt that he will be lacking from a diet of nightcralers, store bought shrimp, and whitefish filets?
