New Hoplias Aimara

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Correct, absolutely fearless. It ate last night and you could hear it hitting the food from 20 feet away. How long till it starts to get "tame" ,and begging for food? I'm thinking about a month it will start coming up for food , then completely "Oscar" tame in 3 months. Anyone have an opinion? It's housed by itself at the moment. I like the idea of adding Exodon paradoxus, Bucktooth Tetra's in a year or 2, depending on the Aimara's growth rate.

The new Aimara Wolffish is taming alot faster than I thought it would. When I open the lid on the aquarium it notices me and comes up to investigate. Whatever I drop in now is attacked and gone as soon as it hits the surface. It really seems to digest the food quickly. A huge bulging stomach is gone by the next morning completely. I am still enjoying this fish more than anything else that I have ever had the pleasure of keeping. Highly recommended. All of the wounds that it received during shipping have healed completely now. I also learned from Wes ,that my Aimara Wolffish came from the Vaupes River or a tributary on the Columbian border. I am going to try hard to figure out how to post some pictures tonight.Thanks.

What a dream fish! How big do they get and what is an ideal tank size?

I have heard a lot about them. Hmm one day!

In the wild 40+ kilos, and over a meter in length. It's in a grow out tank currently. We are building a new house that will have one display tank that can be seen from the den&kitchen both. All the other tanks will be in a custom built fishroom. Been waiting a long time for this to finally be a reality. Thanks

Awesome! Nice pick up, and vids of aggression :)
