New member and new Arowana owner

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My plan is to build a 370-500 gallon aquarium or how ever big it turns out out of plywood with this 220 gallon within the next year. Of course I know I have to seal the wood and all that. I saw how The King of DIY did it for his Arowana and that is the same plan I have.

I would go bigger then a 500 for 2 full grown silver arrows especially if you plan on putting other fish in there...

Aim for a 8x4x2.5 min

Trust me on this

Congrats on the new monsters. You're going to have six poop making monsters soon enough lol. Any future plans on filtration upgrades in the future?

Bigger than a 500? I mean I have no clue where I would put something like that. I am planning on buying a gouse within the bext year so hopefully it has plenty of apace for an aquarium room.

I am going to buy an fx6 or fx4 to aid to the filtration set up I have now. Do I really need that much filtration?
Perhaps I do, I have been having a bit of a hard time completely clearing my water of all my fogginess. Been doing water changes daily to make sure it cleara out completely. Its way better bow after 2 30% changes

This is addicting in deed, i just got this 220 set up and I feel like I need bigger and bigger aquariums lol. I have tried reaching out to him but never get a reply back. I am sure there are thousands of people doig the same.

Water shouldn't be cloudy, what media are you using? Right now it's just a 5 gallon bucket with lava rocks? That covers your biological filtration, but you will need more mechanical filtration (pads, more coarse to finer) to keep the water clear. Carbon can also help keep water clear, though it isn't necessary.
I agree with the Oscars and two aro's, you are going to need the biggest tank you can get. 370 would be a bit small. Your 220 will probably last around a year max.
Your doing great so far btw man. Just keep learning and doing research.

I appreciate the input, as for filtration I am doing polyester before the lava rocks. Perhaps I might need more? I am planning on adding another filter canister, perhaps a fx6 or fx4 those fx6s are pretty da*** expensive. I will build a tank here i the future within a year or so hopefully sooner.

How long has this tank been established? It might not be fully cycled yet, I see you say a couple months ago you started the hobby. It usually takes 4+ weeks for a tank to go through the nitrogen cycle. If you don't know much about the nitrogen cycle I would read up on it, very important stuff.
If the tank is cycled, I would try adding more mechanical filtration (pads etc), and a product you could try is "algone" which I have used with success. I usually don't recommend chemicals or pruducts, better to get to the base of the problem, but in the short term the algone could help keep the water clear until the problem is sorted out.

I honestly dont know what kept the water cloudy, the parameters were and are perfect. Just I have done two 30% water changes and it has cleared the problem. As for the tank been set up I would say about 2-3 weeks. The cloudiness has resolved already. I started up the tank with some good bacteria that I honestly cant remember the name of. As for the parameters, they seemed to be on point as of now and I am constantly checking them since the tank is new. I would also take your advise and read up on nitrogen cycle. I appreciate all the help I can received.
