I yeagers too but im not a fan. They seem to never last me more than 8 or so months. Only reason why i keep usig it is because they keep replacing it. Have some aqueons that are over 2 yrs old

That's pretty funny actually, I've had pretty much the exact opposite experience with my aqueons developing noise issues and dying early Maybe we both just have equally bad luck haha.

Either way you should be either undersizing the heater (and using more of them) to make sure that a single heater stuck on will not toast your fish, or using a digital controller as an extra layer of protection. Ideally I'd like to do both but haven't gotten around to shelling out for a system to control them yet

Ammonia is the worst followed by nitrite, nitrate is pretty much tolerated under 40ppm. Water changes and plants suck up the nitrate
