Ignore that guy. He's just trying to start something. How about vipers?

Im not trying to start anything pal, im asking him to choose his reptiles for other reasons other than RARE.... and go ahead and get yourself a clue suggesting a venemous reptile for a keeper who is not experienced in handling hots. :screwy:

why not get it cause its rare? i got my austratlian water draon cause they are not common instead of a beared dragon since eveyrone has one, so its a dumb reason to even argue over getting a reptile cuase its "rare"

You really think its a smart idea to take a rarer animal from the wild because its just "rare"? Your comparison doesnt apply to this dialogue because youre comparing two animals that are captive bred here in the United States, the fact that Australian H2O dragons arent offered for sale as much as beardeds does not make them more RARE, it just makes the bearded dragon more popular.

Both species are illegal to import into the United States from Australia, so what you see here is what you get. No collection trips no importation nada. Now if you compare that to other animals that were suggested, that are indeed being imported they in fact could be rare, not in the sense of marketability, but in terms of their origin ie, habitate locality etc. That is where your duty as herp-hobbyist is to not just get one individual. You should definatley get a group or guaranteed pair so you are not inhibiting any further on their importation, you then become a valuable asset to the the hobby because you are attempting to breed them in captivity.
This is why I always suggest that if people want reptile pets, that they go and get readily available cb animals.

Well you can get 'rare' reptiles that are captive bred, i guess we are just looking at it 2 different ways.

They are amazing, i want some now too.

I see there is an argument about buying animals because they are rare!
I think it is wrong to reccoment rare animals to people who cant keep them just because they are rare but if you are able to keep them correctly then i think most people buy animals fish or reptile or any other types of animals because they are rare i think a large aquarium for example would look a lot better heavily planted with a large shoal of very coclourfull fish if you dont like rare interesting animals so i choose to fill a large tank with rare fish because i enjoy keeping something different that hardly anyone else will have. There is nothing wrong with buying animlas because they are rare it is just another reason why they apeal to us.

If I had a big bugget for this hobby I would purposely buy large groups of animals that I knew were rare or somehow endangered to get some captive breeding out of them and help preserve the species. I would love to help save and reabilitate market asian turts that are literaly being eaten out of existence.:( Well I kind of do that but on a microscopic scale;) But anyways I really dont care much if the animals Im getting are comon or rare even if I own critters that fall in both categorys. 2 of my favorite reptiles, the green iguana and red eared sliders are as comon as they get, but I love them anyways. Im not here to gain a contest of popularity, im here because I love their personaly, look and in all because I find them fascinating. I also have thouse fellings for rarer critters. Ive yet to get that saifin dragon(better a male and a copple of females:D)
