New RBP Mom- Need advice and help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Honestly at this point it is a waiting game. Keep up the daily water changes. Read up on what prime does. It should be handling the ammonia even if there are still readings. I would add a little aquarium salt to help with the bites.

I have been in this hobby for 25 years. I still make mistakes. You are doing what you can to rectify and correct for the future. Live and learn. You will be enjoying the tank soon enough.

Am a week into setting up a 70gal tank. Trying to do it right this time and cycle it. But now where near ready for them to move. I feel like I'm failing. Their original home is ass, and I cant seem to fix it fast enough. ?
I work nights at the hospital so I'm worried about what I find when I get home.
Don't give up just keep doing the water changes. Piranha are pretty hardy. You haven't lost any have you? If you get time plastic plants can help with line of sight. That should slow the nipping down. Don't give up.

I absolutely 100% agree we all have made mistakes as hobbyist and we do learn from them.

No fatality as of yet. There does appear to be a pecking order. One is considerably smaller and has not been involved in any altercations. The other two are the nipped ones. The smaller one stays behind a rock in the back. Almost buried in the gravel.

I'm not giving up. I'm just frustrated with myself mainly. I save things, I dont kill them. I will continue water changes. I have that down to an art. I am online as we speak looking at canister filters. Fluval 307? I have a HOB one on the new tank now, but it is way too small. I just wanted to go ahead and get some of the bacteria going.

Huge fan of the fluval canister. I have the FX6 in my 150. Also have two Eheim canisters on that tank as well. Also good product. I think I have a 307 on my 36 gallon in my office.

Great to hear that. Yes definitely a pecking order the nipped fins will grow back. What are you feeding the little Piranha?

Its their actual body!!

Frozen brine shrimp, I have the pellets and blood worms and flakes. The store said they were feeding flakes and brine shrimp. They dont really go for the pellets or blood worms. The only time I've seen them eat was flakes and shrimp. And even then, I'm having to go hide and watch from a distance. ?‍♀️
