perhaps atlantic or gray smoothhounds. Dont really know yet.

Get a shovelnose shark! They have to be one of, if not the, craziest looking sharks. Also get some Port Jacksons, very nice, and calm too.

Have you considered some snapper species to cycle? Larger ones so they don't get eaten? Maybe like a red emporer, hint hint

A couple port jacksons means a couple thousand dollars here in the states. It would be nice though. And I was thinking grouper instead of snapper.

I also added ball valves to the filter returns. Wasn't getting enough contact with water and bio media. Pictures later.

What are some other big bio load fish I could cycle with? Any suggestions?

So very, very cool!

Jacks, looksdowns, small groupers....

I got a snapper, a grouper and a grunt. A bottle of stability, some nutrafin cycle. Another 150 pounds of sand. Built a cage for the filter intake out of egg crate and as i said before put two ball valves on the filter returns. Still fine tuning the water flow. Too worried about the barrels overflowing if i turn it down too much. Its a very fine line between not enough water contact and overflowing the barrels.

Its almost complete.
Anyone know if the silica in filter sand creates algae blooms when used as a substrate? Hope i didnt just add 150 pounds of headache.

Pictures soon. letting the water clear a little bit.

Wow! They are one of, if not the cheapest sharks you can get here in LFS. $250 maximum. I'll send you some for 750ea :p

Zoodiver, Why no bacteria? Ive always used something, whether its live sand from an established tank, or a few big pieces of live rock. A little bacteria in a bottle here and there, it aways seems to speed up the process.
Ill be sitting here for months if i dont do something to speed it up. Maybe add a little pure ammonia?
Im interested in why you say not to add anything. Never heard that before.
