New Sunsun 304Bs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Update time! I am having no real problems with my new filters. The UV works with no problems. These things turn a lot of water. The only pain is priming them, though probably operator error.

Hey guys, how do they compare to the Marineland Magnum 350 Pro? With my employee discount I can get a Magnum with a uv unit or 2 of these on ebay. What's the best deal? Thanks.

It's time to revive this thread and give an update! I did a major renovation on my 120 tall. I broke down the filter and gave it a good scrubbing. I am still using the original scrubber pads. I will probably buy new one within the year. I have been using these since Nov 2013. They are still functioning fine, but I am starting to see a degradation. The UV light still functions properly with no back fill of water. I completely drained the motor assembly after I rattled the can it made a racket (I suspect I lodged a small piece of carbon in the propeller). Upon inspection, all pieces were fine, and when I refilled and repowered my can, it worked great! I did remove my ammo chips and carbon, but did put the ceramic bio cylinders in. Everything has been running for five days since reassembly and there hasn't been a single hiccup *knock on wood*.

I just had mine get a leak in the seal on the UV for no apparent reason. The clear rod that shows you the light is running is just press fit so it was leaking water into the lid. Pretty much ruined the light fixture. I ended up tearing the whole uv assembly out and patching it with silicone.

So keep an eye on your uv seals.

I hope you've since figured out that there's no need to prime, if you just fill the entire canister with water before reattaching lid and hoses.

I have 3 of these canisters, been running for 2.5yrs, and have no issues with any leakage.

I don't use the uv, and hate that it gets in the way during maintenance. Was it difficult to remove the uv assembly?

There are various complaints about these filters springing leaks. Some of the comments I have read say the plastic is thinner than other "known brand" canister filters such as Eheim or Fluval.

I think for my next canister filter, I may just buy a power head or water pump and build a DIY canister filter from the various videos I see on YouTube.

If you've been around all these forums long enough, you would come to know that this applies to ALL brands and models

You're probably right. It may just be my bias towards Chinese made goods. Which is completely stupid, because Eheim makes their canister filters in China, and I am sure that Fluval and all the others do to.
