new tank, couple days old

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thank you, yea Ive taken out those plants as they started to die and cause a mess lol. The fish kept uprooting them, they would be fine at night and in the morning they would be floating. So out they went. Yea Im confused as to whats wrong. I thought it would be fine by now...Im gonna do a full panel here in a bit to see what all the numbers are and I will post on here what they are.

Your'e tank should be cycled by now. What type of filter you have? Are you over feeding the tank??? Cut in half what you are feeding and every other day. Your fish WILL NOT starve. Try this and see what happens.

Ive got that stock filter that came with the tank...Its the aqueon 20 or 30 filtration system. I bought the tank in a package and it didnt specify which filter system was in it. its a 29 g tank. We currently feed every 3 days, and the fish eat all the food that we put in, so I dont think its over feeding...still could be but Im not sure. Maybe I need a better filter?

What fish do you have in there now? If the ammonia is still there then try adding Seachem Stability (if you don't already use it). What are the other parameters? It seems odd that the aquarium still has not cycled properly yet.

Right now Ive got 3 neons, two glass cats, 1 pleco, and two guppies(female). My neons are going CRAZY, zipping all over the tank, and my yellow guppie isnt looking so hot, this aint good. I feel bad for the little girl, and the orange gup is layin next to yellow as her little buddy, its cute. I just checked my numbers and ammonia is 1ppm, nitrite and nitrate are both 0ppm....WTF....

Bacteria need ammonia first to create nitrite, followed by nitrate. Seems like not enough bacteria, how that is I don't know.

You dont have enough bacteria breaking down the ammonia and turning it into nitrite, thats why its at 1ppm. And there should be nitrate in the tank so that means that the nitrite bacteria is growing because nitrite may not be present. What do you use for a filter (filters)? and whats in the filter?
