Is there any fish in the new tank right now? If no, there's no point in doing a water change.
No I just lost them this morning so I guess it doesn't matter. Hoping to bring down the ammonia but maybe the start up bacteria need it.

Why are you using straight ro water?
One more question, what kind of heater are you using?
You need to do a at least a 50/50 ro to tap mix for freshwater fish, if you don't reconstitute the water. They need the minerals, and so does your bacteria colonies.Because I use it for my saltwater tank and my other nano. I like the idea of pure water and not having to use conditioners

Plants love the soft water. Some fish will live in it, but it's not healthy for them. There are very few fish that actually benefit from super soft water. That's the first I've heard of that, I have another nano tank on the same water excelling. Housed is Pygmy hatchetfish and red crystal shrimp. The plants are also growing like wildfire in that tank.

Never heard of this, and I've heard of people using straight ro water, particularly on drip system. I used to use ro water for my betta bowls, they all lived for a number of years without issue. You need to do a at least a 50/50 ro to tap mix for freshwater fish, if you don't reconstitute the water. PH is not hardness. My ph is 6.5-6.8 it's on the softer side but not super soft
