Water does not cycle a tank. We’ve beaten that one like a dead horse on many threads though.
I only say it’s a hybrid because with them being captive bred and easy to misidentify, somewhere down the line this hybridization is common. Doesn’t mean it is or isn’t, just likely a hybrid. Without pics of ancestors up to the wild ones, there isn’t a sure way to tell.
Time to start placing bets on who comes out alive though. Devil or fh? My money is on the devil.

The devil is actually pretty nice to the fh. I’m just housing them together for maybe a month maybe less just to see if they can form an olive branch or something

You mean Floyd vs Paul? I’d bet on the RD too. Has size on him and can easily out punch him. I just hope he can last all 8 rounds like Logan did.

What you should’ve done is keep the fh in the tub. Not get the red devil. Watch the water in the 40 and start to cycle the 55. Your 40 and 55 would be empty which I know drives you crazy. But it’s for the better of the fish. After a week put a dither in the 49 to see how he does. If he lives great! If not you may need to clean all decor, gravel and get new water and cycle that too. Can we see pics of the tank?

Both in nature (hypothetically for the fh) would claim about a 300 gallon space all for itself. Two is complicated. Your only hope of peace is them pairing off, which will still result in injury in less than a 125.

What do you suggest I do with the red devil. I’d I’m deciding on rehoming one then it’s the red devil and I’m keeping the FH. Also my mom doesn’t understand the hobby at all so let’s try some suggestions that she’d be able to realize need to be done

Thats not going to last long lol. Long term your going to end up with a dead fish and unless you can do almost a 50% wc a day there is a good chance the Red Devil will have a very bad quality of life. duanes has a good system take the length of the fish in inches so for the Red devil 12" and move the decimal place back once so a 12" fish needs 120 gallons of water a 14" fish needs 140 and so on. so technically a 55g is only good for a 5.5" fish

Yea why? The table is strong and sturdy we tested it when we first got it to see how much weight it could hold and it’s surprisingly strong
