then one night you'll find a tank full of dead fish :\Hdeuce;2088467; said:no i meant the education behind demopsey and convicts not getting along alot of times they do as far as the cycling i meant that i moved all the substrate the decorations
and everything including the filter. so its fine. and the longer i leave the jack in the tank without introducing new fish the more aggressive he will be if i introduce the fish while he is still smallish they will have the chance too take there out niche in the tank which gives them a better chance of surviving. If i wait for the jack to become more comfortable he will be more territorial over his tank when i put new fish in.

a jack killed my oscar, attacked my eel, my senegal bichir, my geophagus, and nearly killed another oscar. thats my education. bad experiences with both jd's i've kept.
i assumed everything in the tank was new. my bad
Ksane;2088646; said:You actually sound mad at the Oscar because he ate the Bichir. That didn't make sense. Of course he's going to eat anything that'll fit in his mouth. What did you think was going to happen? It's not a school-yard.
I'd be mad at my own self but I can't imagine being 'mad' at a fish and calling him names because he ate a fish I shouldn't have put in there lol
PS Silver Dollars are schooling fish that need to be in groups. I don't feel the 55 gal is big enough for a group of SD's. Maybe a single JD and nothing else, if you end up with a monster-sized JD like some I've seen then a 55 won't be big enough either.
Just a friendly suggestion ;-)
