Is there any difference in your PH vs where he was bred at?
Being someone else here with rediculous PH I too would be very intrested to know the difference between keeping rays at hard tap PH vs a lower R/O tap mix.
Crappy thing about RO is getting a system big enough to handle the days where you need to change a rediculous amount of water.
Check out GE Merlins..... I know they come highly recommended by many of the experienced keepers here......
It does look like he is getting better and if he has started eating even better. I have to run 2 - 100 gpd ro's here my ph out of the tap is 8.6 - 8.7 and hard, not at all suitable for rays.
The thing that throws me off is if it is PH, then why is the other one which is smaller doing so well? Maybe i need to ship him back and see if he recovers.
Why have i been successful in keeping rays for the 4+ years? I have had many of rays too...The only ray i have ever had die was a male hystrix a few weeks back from getting beat up by other rays.
i wouldnt move the ray as the stress of that maybe enough to kill the ray on its own
if it is a bact problem then you will need to treat the whole tank anyways as it will be infected
if you feel you have to move rays then move the healthy ones as they will be able to cope with a move better
i have never fed night crawlers 1 because they are very adictive and 2 they could becarrying any kind of crap from the ground if you are buying them then the same can also be said
your not having much luck with p14 dont let it put you off the kind of things that are happening to you are very very rare with p14 and i have found they are a very strong ray no matter what others say
the only med i have ever had to use in the past 8 years of keeping p14 is tremazol never any salt or anything else so cant say how they will react to any other med
as for ph mine has always been higher than most would recomend right now its 8.5 with no problems as i cant do much about it with 24\7 water change
The problem with P-14's is that they are so interbred that they have a week immune system and are susceptible to everything and anything. Most likely a bacterial infection and possible kidney failure or liver failure. May be some kind of form of Dropsy.
this is the same problem i had when my rays had gill worm lots of different advice coming from different people who had never kept p14 non of which was right
its best to take advice from people who have kept p14 and can give you the right advice for me if i ever have anymore problems the only 2 people i will listen to now are Stefan and mark h or you will be trying loads of different things none of which maybe right
the 1st thing everyone says is salt and up the temp i have never ever had the need to add salt to any of my tanks until thats what i was told when i had the gill worm it took ages to get that crap out of my system and will never add it again
