NEW TO AFRICANS. Would like some advise?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my problem with this site is ppl come on and tell people things in the wrong way. just say see how it goes but have a tank setup for them if it doesnt. is that hard. things work and sometimes they dont. While arguring with u ppl on here ive done a lil reading and from what ive read the diets of all my cichlids seem to be fine.. Sorry for the innappropriate comment it was uncalled for. I'm just trying something and if it doesnt work then Ill take care of but if it does work then i made an exception to what others say.

They are getting bloodworms, flakes and pellets. I also have clips with lettuce in 3 spots of the tank. Once a month my fish are given live minnows or guppies

What research for mbuna did you do that says that's ok?

WAY too much protein for the mbuna you have. You may be getting away with it now since I'm guess the fish are still juveniles. But if you continue feeding them those foods, they will get bloat and die.

the live food is for the bichirs and pike. I went on another site and it stated that they shouldnt be givin various live foods. flakes are better for them. Like i said im new to this type of fish. my bad i will consider returning them to the lfs

My problem with the site is people can't spell lol......i'm also shocked your africans don't get bloat. :screwy:

I can understand that the live food is for the bichir but it's difficult to make sure each fish gets the food it's suppose to.
It's not just that flakes are better you have to pay attention to what the protein content is of each food is. I feed my mbuna veggie flakes, NLS, and vegetables.
If you really want to keep them I would suggest setting up a mbuna tank. If not then I'm glad you are considering returning them.

I will return them to the store as like you i dont mistreat animals. just for the heck of it. Is there a african cichlid that could be kept in my tank and be ok for life. setting up another tank is not an option right now. the wifey wont allow
