ive kept wolf fish with other fish on countless occasions and i have seen it done on countless occasions.
its true theres a slight chance it might snap any day,but in most occasions where the hoplias has been raised with other fish,it will be fine.

Yea I know we had this conversation before. ;) It's all a matter of opinion but if he is new to Cichla, why put in a fish that can disembowel your fish in a matter of second's? I am not saying Hoplias aren't ownable just why advise something that is more of aggression type killer when SPACE is going to be an issue! :grinno: If you owned them as I have then you know it won't even be a warning and it's over.

Yea very :screwy:/ I love hopilas but the conditions must be right or you have 1 Wolf fish and nothing else. Also you have to think about food a wolf fish is not going to play nice about not getting any feeders or about anyone else getting feeders.

yea.
but when it came to food, most of mine were actually very laid back.
they would wait for all the others to eat then start eating.:screwy:

HOLY COW!!!! I have been on MFK for a little while but have never posted in the CICHLA forum. You guys are quick to help out others!:)

I'm just surprised there isn't a sticky with the basic care for P Bass. Anywho, it's late and I gotta get up at 4:30 so off to bed. I'll do some researching after work tomorrow.

THANKS AGAIN;)

a bunch have tried many times

good luck. I just started keeping Cichla and had very bad luck. I am down to none and I didn't think I was going to get anymore, but I've been hit with the bug, so I'm going to be getting some more real soon!

juveniles really arent that hard to keep if you do things right.

-tank has to be cycled before adding fish
-water quality and filteration must be good, low nitrates if none at all, no nitrites and no ammonia
-your water temp must be 87+ degrees
- when small they must be fed everyday and must at least 6 inches before you try to starve them to get them off live food.. if they eat prepped foods at a smaller size and you dont need to starve them, then fine.
- you should attempt to vary their diet as best as possible
- keep up with your water changes

this is all i can really think of right now, please chime in if i forgot something

A good concentration of DO is also needed.

Everything you mentioned was in check, I just think my oxygen levels went too low since they were in a planted tank w/ no supplemental oxygen.

i thought plant release oxygen? i know a few people that had full planted tanks and never had a problem

what do you suggest as feeders?

I would rather get feeders that I can breed cause the LFS closest to my house SUCKS and the next closest never takes care of the feeders they sale.

I have like 10 tanks ranging from 20L up to 75 gal. that is not in use and can be used for breeding feeders so I'm ok in that department.
