so your saying there is salt in the amazon?

My opinon is very low levels in inlets and outlet's also salt minerals in the earth and land run off. Also I have to believe were blackwater meet's white water's. I read somewhere that it also may be aq condition for breeding.

maybe minor traces... i never read that but i don't doubt it, i am sure you could get cichla to spawn like alot of other cichlid.. you can get them to breed with frequent small water changes, turn up the temp 1 degree each day or every 2 days and feeding live foods along with consistency and long periods of good water quality ... shrug lol tongue where are you? he would know better then me lol

i would just get them and get a bigger tank down the road

LOL, thats what the devil on my right shoulder says:ROFL:

I have been in the hobby long enough to know that impulse buying rarely turns out good. I always research and ask lots of questions before I spend money on anything.

OH and about the salts in the Amazon, I would think there is some in the water but probably untraceable amounts, especially during the rainy season when the Amazon floods.

I have decided NOT to buy any Cichla. I plan on building a new house in the next year or so and I plan on having a "fishroom" so I think I will just wait so I can provide the proper home for any cichla.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a few right now but I just want to provide a large enough home for them. I will definitely post them when I get some. Thanks again for the info!

Glad to help and we will be here when you return. I think building a house should take priority. And then get the big tank. Sounds like your doing things right. And the Cichla will be here when your ready. GL with everything and I am sure we will see you again.:naughty:;)
