I'm starting to hate my black substrate... Looks cool in the tank but the polys don't benefit from it, and it's impossible to get a good pic

I definitely would, but they'll be moved to a new tank with floramax within a week or two. My fish room is in transition, everyone is getting an upgrade so I'm sorta starting over with their setups. excited to see my polys in a new setupmaybe throw some white in there. That's what I did. Or you could always go garnet. Sometimes adding some more green plants or colorful rocks can help. I personally love the black, but can see what you mean with the polys.

I believe the ornate is female. Female bichirs tend to grow larger and get more massive.
