I'm not sure if you can get ammonia to drop without a nitro cycle. And, if your PH is too low, nothing will happen. Your PH needs to be at least 6.0 for the cycle to kick off. A very simplified explanation is ammonia turns to nitrites which turn to nitrates. Once your nitrates are gone, your tank is cycled. You should check out pufferpunk's links.

And also, gold spotted puffers get like 7 inches, and need at least a 30 gallon long.

I was told these are green spotted puffers not gold...

And I know they need a bigger tank but I am not allowed to have anything bigger than 10g. I will upgrade as soon as I move out of here.

Woops. I meant to type green spotted puffer. Yeah they do get 7 inches. But you have a computer and you can do your own research right? Right?

Yes I can do my own research. I did say I should have done research before I bought my boys. I know I should have. I feel horrible that I didn't. But I am trying to do my best and make sure they are ok until I can get them into a bigger tank that will suit them better. Is that not good enough?

Protip: The filter cartridge should not be changed while cycling a tank. After 3 months, change it every 2 months.

Yes. 3 puffers. And the test strip keeps coming up as stressful.
