If you want any of those puffers to survive, you must rehome 2 of them tomorrow. Not at Walmart either--they will flush them. Keep the smallest one. Then do 90% water changes every day & don't add any salt until it's cycled. If you read those articles, you know you should be using marine salt to make BW, not aquarium salt.

No one will take my puffers. My friend said she could hold them for a few days with her 3 GSPs but that I would have to come get them back after a few days.

They seem fine. They haven't had any problems, I just wanted to get the water right for them.

I will get the correct salt tomorrow. And I will get the water changes done.

I feel like everyone is attacking me for what I am doing. I am just trying to make sure I am doing everything right. I get it that I haven't been. I will work to fix this.

Also, I hear everyone who is saying I need a bigger tank for my boys. I know this. I can't get anything bigger until I move out. I can't move until after next semester. My dorms have rules. I have to follow them.

I am a college student that needed a pet. I chose puffer fish to suit my interest in exotics. It's not fair for you all to tear me down for trying to make sure I was at least trying to do right for my boys. At least I am trying. :/

Well then you should take note of how sensitive fish are, and what each one needs. No animal should have to suffer because of your impulse buy. You dont NEED a pet, but you went out and got one anyway. So many people do this to all animals.

I read the tags for each of the fish. I asked a ton of questions of the clerk and I thought about buying my boys for more than two weeks. An impulse buy? No it wasn't.

As for my need of a pet? That is your opinion. You don't know me.

You might want to read the subject of this post you started. You asked if you're doing everything right. As far as I am concerned, you have done nothing right for the survival of these "exotic" fish. You say they are "fine" but you have already stated there is high/stressful ammonia in there. Ammonia burns gills, skin, eyes, mouth. They are living in their own waste--a toilet bowl.

How do you know there are no reputable fish stores that might take these fish? You say you can do your own research, when I give you links--yet you have done none & argue with people trying to help.

I wasn't arguing. I was simply stating that I felt attacked.

In petsmart they label a good tank for a pacu at 30 gallons. Pacus get 2 FEET. Just goes to show how some stores handle customers. Anything to make a sale. Whoever sold you 4 fish to cycle a 10 gallon, is dumb. And why are you getting so trolled?

There is not a petsmart within an hour from where I live. I went to walmart, that's where I have always bought my fish from. Never had a problem before.

Buying a creature of any kind without doing research 1st IS AN IMPULSE BUY!!!
You trusted the tags on a Walmart tank & the idiot clerk that couldn't care less about them? You are in college, go live a college life. I mean, how long are you in your dorm room that you actually need a pet to keep you company?

I am in my dorm room when I am not at work or in class. I don't live the "college life". I don't drink or party. It is a waste of time. And as for the pet just keeping me company, My boys make me feel needed. Keeps me alive thank you very much. I do not want anyones sympathy, but I feel you people need to understand. I have had a very rough life. I get extremely depressed very often. Having pets makes me feel needed, therefore I don't get so depressed. So yes, I do NEED them.

Have you kept a fish alive for >10 years?

I had a fancy goldfish for 13 years.

Ignore anyone "tearing you down" about your purchase. When you say "no one will take them", what do you mean? Just call around tomorrow to some "ma and pop" fish stores and ask if they will take the fish in. Most will probably even give you a little credit for them. I would take them ALL in and look for something else to put in your 10g. I would recommend 1 or 2 dwarf puffers or a male betta. They both have great personalities and look forward to seeing their owners.

And I wouldn't worry about the salt at all right now.
