New Tropical Pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We put a sealer on the deck and the railing and I'm pretty happy how it looks.

I've run in to a couple of problems. Because the top of the barrel filter being closer to ground level I found that when it rains a large number of earth worms are climbing into the filter. Excess garbage and organic material. I need to figure out some kind of top.

The other issue that I need to address is that I filled the barrels up with 1/2 inch rock. I really need to put a couple of more layers of finer stuff in there. The problem is that I need to play with it a little bit because one of the barrel filters is gravity fed. If you all remember it comes from a waterfall in my apartments. This could make the water overflow.

I took the water out again. I needed to patch up a coupld of small cracks, seal between the skimmers and the concrete wall, and my daughters birthday party. Yes, my wife wants the pond bluer then green for the party. I'll finish the maturation process after the birthday pool party.

Wow! This is a bigger problem then I had thought. The filter pads in the major filter were full of earth worms, dead and alive. This isn't too good for my organic matter balance. My filter entrance is at the planter dirt level. Even though the dirty water doesn't run into the filter I suppose when it rains hard the worms start moving about.

Some sort of raised concrete collar should keep the works out.
