Keep in mind my materials are mostly salvaged from other projects. For now Im gonna have to settle for this wimpy pump i already have instead of a new one. Just the plumbing components and other materials have got me over $150 and i still have to buy exterior paneling. I love aquariums but hate the expenses lol.

I would take the plastic brace off and replace with glass strips. Personally I like the look of eurobracing.

My stand and canopy plans involve overlapping that ugly trim. But the plastic is helpful for moving the tank around like ive been doing. Eurobracing is definitely prettier but unnecessary work and expense given the general "scratched to hell" condition of this tank.

And with a little drain and pump tweaking...

Are you kidding me? It actually works. Patting myself on the back for actually doing something right. Not only does it work but my drain is nearly silent!

Got the drain at roughly 50% and the sp4 at around 85-90% power if i had to guess. Super excited this seems to work until i can afford a new pump.

Got new return fittings in mail.

Simulated a power failure with the sump at 11" water level. Still got an inch to spare.

Also simulated a drain clog...im gonna have to cut the emergency drain a bit lower cause it was uh not comfortable. Thanks to Fish Tank Travis Fish Tank Travis tank for recommending an emergency drain it is definitely a vital part of the setup.
