New Wild Caught Azul adjustment problems

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
its a 180, 6x2x2, and he defintely has room in there. and he really isnt being pestered, when hes in that corner like noone touches him, the odd time hes not cuz i try to get him to swim around by spooking him a bit (should i be doing that?) then the bass show interest but only the orino picks on him, and very mildly. so i think thats a small part of the stress, but the stress of coming from somewhere in brazil to an aquarium here and not knowing how to cope is what it is more than other tankmates, unless the sheer presence in size of the other fish is whats causing distress.

You're going to have to give him some time to settle. The stress will reduce in time if the bigger bass don't eat or pester him constantly. The size difference is a concern to me.

ya i know, it concerns me too, and i thought they would be coming in about 2 inches bigger but it just so happened there biggest one was in bad shape when they got it. the only one i would be concerned with eating would be teh temensis just because of pure size. the orino is no threat because hes not even a full 2 inches bigger, the kelberi and mono are possible but they are relatively peaceful and never bully anyone. the temensis can definitely fit it in its mouth though, which is my concern once im not there to be able to feed it till late in the day.

the temensis isnt aggressive towards anything else at all, but it does eye and sneak up behind the azul, like ti does seem to check it out and be curious about it a lot.

thanks for all the replies guys, any suggestions to reduce this stress for this guy?

A 20" clown knife can easily swallow a 6"bass

Yeah, the knife would have to be relocated for the azul's safety. The tank as it is sounds fine otherwise,it's okay that there is no lighting so the zul can settle down easier without it.I wouldn't worry about its growth being affected in that tank.It is not for the long term so keep the water fresh and feedings frequent and growth should at least be normal.

Thanks a lot for the opinion, I respect you for sharing, but please excuse me in asking if anyone else shares the same opinion about the 23 gallon being good enough to grow the already 6 inch bass in considering it goes against every instinct I have thinking that it would catch up to the big guys faster in there than the 180. Does anyone have any suggestions on my concern with feeding minnows, he didn't eat again today so I may need to drop some in soon.
