walmart.com sells the api master test kit, but it isn't in any of the stores near me. It's pretty cheap online, but I just went to my lfs to get one

You will not find the correct test at Walmart. I've told you that already.

The test strips are very inaccurate, to the point that they will read "safe" or "0" when in fact the water has as high as 5ppm of ammonia (which is very, very high.)

You will absolutely waste your money if you buy what walmart has. If you don't have a petstore near you, then order it online. There are many websites that sell it. Dr. Foster and Smith Aquatics, PetMountain to name a couple.

Well it has test tubes, two bottles of liquid, and two test strips.
That will be good enough for goldfish. It isn't a platinum arowana here, lol

My walmart sells the tests... and it's the API drop tests.

You may be able to get it at your walmart, each walmart is different.. for example, the walmart near my mom's sells mothballs... mine however, does not.

Yeah I think the one at my walmart will suffice, it has two drop bottles, and a test tube, and two strips to match up to on a chart.

I believe the instore one will be good enough to test for ammonia for goldfish.

Its about 10$ in the store.

There is also a ph test with a dropper bottle and a test tube and strip.

EDIT:*************
This is exactly what is in Walmart. And this is what i will buy tomorrow.

I love how caring you are. Why do you even own these poor goldfish?

A person who buys a platinum aro is more than likely going to give top notch care to their fish.

In all honesty, it's a $5 goldfish, we can't make him care for it like he would an aro.

He's doing what he can.. give him some credit for that.

Haha somehow I don't think the care would change even for an asian aro.

Excuse me for taking offense...I have 4 tanks, 1 of which is a 125g dedicated to only fancy goldfish and "in all honesty" whether I paid $5 or $500 for any of my fish, they ALL get top notch care!

My goldfish get the same treatment as my discus believe it or not.

Don't get me wrong, I think they should all get the same care, but some fish keepers will think differently...

I have fancy goldfish, as well as your typical comets, and they get the best care that I can give them. My fish obsession started with 2 goldfish to which I have to this day and are both well over 12".

I just think this person was maybe a bit offended with the "you won't get them at walmart, I already told you that." comment.

I mean, he's new at this... there was no need for that motherly comment.

Give him credit where credit is due.

In all honesty, if you were only allowed to do one water change a week and it was goldfish or aro... MOSt people would pick aro. It's not right, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles. :screwy:

Damn and i thought keeping goldfish was easy... thank god i got my FH instead ... lol
