It took him 5 pages to agree to do the first piece of advice I gave him. Maybe now he will re-read the posts I've made, and take me seriously this time.

You will need an API freshwater master test kit to test your water while the tank goes through the cycling process. It will be very difficult to do since you already have two very messy fish in the tank. The maladies you are describing are from poor water quality.http://thegab.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=22119&p=296774&hilit=+special+cycle+tank#p296774......

I read this whole thread...now I am sad.

I wish there was some kind of petition I could sign or group I could join that would defend goldfish from people like the OP.

Fish that were once owned by royalty and proved social status - beautiful, majestic creatures reduced to stunted lives, uncaring owners and UNDESERVING owners.

Almost every time I go to the petstore these days I see some noob picking out the prettiest GF in the tank. And once they are told by myself or employees that the fish can't live in an un-cycled 5-10 gallon tank, "well I will just get another one" or "I know what I am doing".

I am ok with noobs making mistakes because they do not know better. I have made my own mistakes. But once they know better and they continue doing the wrong things, IMO they are animal abusers who deserve a special place in h$ll.

I strongly suspect that the OP is just not smart enough to understand the science behind fish keeping, not an insult just the reality.

To the OP's goldfish - I hope your suffering is not long in this world. I know you will try to hold on as the ammonia burns you and as your body becomes deformed from stunting. I know you will wonder why you are not in a pond somewhere being admired for the gift you are. Rest in peace you unfortunate soul. Another will replace you and then another and another. Humanity has failed you and others like you, and for that I am sorry.

Oh please, "To the goldfish.."

Do you realize that these goldfish are cramped in fish farms not even given 5 gallons to swim in?

I would rather keep 2 goldfish in a 5 gallon tank where they have at least some type of life, than to let them live at a LFS where they will surely die.

I love fish- I have goldfish- I have several goldfish. I have a 14" goldfish that was living in a 30 gallon turtle tank that I took in.

But it's just a goldfish. Fish die-

I kept my fancy comets in a 5 gallon tank or a year when I first got them. They are now over 12"- I doubt him keeping them in a tank for a small amount of time is going to hurt them.

Like he stated, they are under an inch. There is adequate room in the tank for them for at least a month or 2.

Stop trying to be a martyr.

Most of the fish that we keep are eaten everyday in their native country. Why don't you do try to save them?

Yeah, in asia, they use "culls" (the massive number of babies that aren't to be sold) as fertilizer. They just siphon them out onto the yard, still alive. But that's no longer on topic, I suppose.

Nice-

But it's just a goldfish. Fish die- Healthy fish DON'T die for a LONG time if they are healthy and kept healthy.

Why don't you ask them how ammonia burn feels or what it was like to not be able to move around. Furthermore, until that fish lives to its full life potential you cannot say that the 5 gallon had no ill effects. Come back in a couple decades and we will see

Like he stated, they are under an inch. There is adequate room in the tank for them for at least a month or 2. A month or two would be fine, IF the tank was cycled

Stop trying to be a martyr. A martyr? I feel bad because people like you abuse fish? I'm the bad one? Really? You abused your GF, and I am the bad one? Take a look in the mirror.

Most of the fish that we keep are eaten everyday in their native country.- yes that is cycle of life stuff, has nothing to do with this argument. Why don't you do try to save them? I would like to save fish from harm from moronic humans not interrupt the balance of nature itself. Are you seriously suggesting this statement is some sort of fault in my logic? The fault lies in your logic, you treated your fish badly, you come after me because I think your an animal abuser, and you are proud to be an animal abuser.

Really? Was that needed to be stated?
Now you are going to get the vegans in here who are going to say save all the animals, only eat lettuce.

IMO, there is a big difference in surviving (ie: eating the fish to survive) and torturing the fish for fun.

And this is exactly what I think it is.. the OP doesn't know any better.

If it was out of fun, he would not have posted on here.

you do realize that I picked the healthiest goldfish out of the cramped @ss tank at the pet store, that had MOSTLY all sick goldfish, and about 25% of the goldfish were dead floating.
How the heck can you say that is any life for a goldfish at the death sentence of a tank.

I will do what I can for the fish. Considering I have already spent 100$ plus on 2 comet "feeder" goldfish, and changed their water, and am buying ammonia and ph liquid testers, I think I'm doing a fine job.

Did I know what an api freshwater master test kit is?

Do you know what an i7 870 quad core processor or Intel dp55kg motherboard or nvidia gtx 285 graphic card or Kingston hyperx 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 ram or 800watt seasonic s12d PSU is? I think not.
I am into computers, and I know what all of that is. I'm not as in to fish.
You are in to fish and know what that test stuff is.

All I did was go to walmart and look at the testers they have are called. After your original post. Excuse me your royalty that I accidentally called them strip testers when I didn't have any clue about them
