Mind giving an example of a tight lid? I have the one that came with the tank, but if they really wanted. They could probably knock it off.

the big thing is all holes closed up like if you use a HOB filter make sure the lid is tight around it. Some will actually put duct tape over holes. Also if your bichirs are big some people put something on the lid to weigh it down

Thank you, and nope haven't bought a thing yet. Was just trying to see if I am going in the right direction of having the proper equipment. Its my first large tank and first time with "monster" fishys so just a bit unsure if they require special equipment or treatment.

I duct tape the lids closed and duct tape small pieces of plexiglass to any areas that have openings.

If this were my tank i would go with a sump BUT if you dont want to g that route i would consider passing on the fx filters.

I had one and i hated it. I would have loved to take a sledgehammer to it. It doesnt hold much bio and cleaning all of that foam with those stupid trays was a complet nightmare.

Plus the flow is just meh nothing special. I swapped it out for an eheim 2262 which was hands down a much better filter.

Considering maintenance and all of that i would rather have 3 ac110's over an fx6.

They move allot of water hold a decent amount of bio. You can order poret foam from swiss tropicals. Its much better than the crap foam that comes with the filter and at 2 inches thick it will give you more room to add bio.

You can't beat a sump in terms of versatility and ease of maintenance no filter can stand up to a sump. I also agree with J jaws7777 canisters of any kind are a pain to clean.
