Newcomer to MFK: My new 100g build ;-)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Figured that it was time for an update of how the 100g is going.

Here some freshly updated pictures of the hundy. ;-)

Enjoy ;-)

Got some new driftwood from the Columbia River. Pulled off the banks, dried for a week, rinsed and now soaking. ;-)

That wood is going to look SICK when it sinks bro! I love seeing a 100 gallon tank with two FX5's, good man.

So my male trimac is a dither killer and I'm giving him one more shot.

So far, Columbian Tetras, HRPs, Yoma Danios and Spotted Silver Dollars have come victim to this night time ambush predator. Today, got a good deal on (6) red hooks.

I have given him a choice of 3 females and looks like he has chosen one, because there is one left.

Hopefully these red hooks will do the trick.

I'll try and get some pictures when they have settled in the tank.

I honestly think the larger red hooks are going to make a difference bro. They are doing wonders for my breeding RTM pair so it worth a shot none the less.

Yes, I definitely hope so. Woke up this morning and all dithers still alive. However, they already have some battle scars.

Good news is, the female is untouched and clean as a whistle. She's looking great too. I need to get some pictures of her soon.

Thanks again for the red hook suggestion.

Okay guys, I need some suggestions. Below is a picture of the wood that has been soaking since July 14th. The driftwood was collected and dried for a few days before I put it in my tank. It was collected from the Columbia River here in Portland, OR.

To this day, its showing no signs of sinking. I don't have anything big enough for me to put it in for boiling water, nor will it fit in my oven. I am very impatient, so for me letting this try and sink for as long as it has, is starting to get to me.

I am really not to keen on attaching it to slate as the larger piece can go into the tank only a few ways. And plus, I'd like to have the flexibility to move it around it different positions. My thoughts now are to let it dry out for a few days since this coming weekend looks to be very hot. Then I can try to let it soak some more?

Looking for some reasonable suggestions. Otherwise, I just may take it out altogether and grab some Designs By Nature rocks from my neighbor. <ahem>

Thoughts?

get it in a 55g drum and weigh it down. If you take it out at all, it will stop water-logging and start to dry out, taking longer to get under water. Some times extra pressure of a having it completly under water pushes out some of the air bubbles.

I have been soaking for almost 2 months now and still not water logged :\

Is yours soaking in the tank?

I have been able to wedge the wood between the background and the front glass pane of the tank to have them both completely soaked. Thats how I have left it for a while. The picture above was just after a water change. I took a picture before wedging it back in.
