Newcomer to MFK: My new 100g build ;-)

Welcome and Nice tank!

I can see you have a great teacher and therefore with such progress I suggest you create a better layout with much more hiding places etc.. You can use PVC tubes and hide them with rocks etc.. Also try to put the wood entering the tank (I mean the other way round). Still looking nice!

Give us the link for the other foto topics :)

Stupid noob question -- it looks like your tank heater was behind the 3D background in some pics? How does that work?

The heater was back behind the background as we were setting it in. Its out infront of the background now on the left side of the tank.

No questions are stupid :)

Agreed!

Yea, I'm just soaking the manzanita right now, I'll do some pruning and lay them down. Will also be adding some flower pots once the fish get more acclimated.

The female hait had a rough first 8 hours in the tank. Keeping a close eye. I have a good gut-feeling that she'll be fine, but I have OCD paranoia. ;-)

I almost went home for lunch (an hour drive) to check on them - but JK47 laughed at me. Only because he knows what it was like for him in the beginning. ;-)

I'll link the photo thread here tonight or tomorrow.

looks like you have pothos or a similar terrestrial plant in there. If so, it will not grow and will eventually die unless exposed to the air outside of the aquarium, pothos leaves cannot properly draw from the water column... yes they will survive for awhile but they won't live.

Thanks for the response!

"Rivermud" if he is correct it is vital to take them out of the aquarium, some terrestrial plants can be poisonous for fish.

It's just good old anubias, nothing to be worried about. I had it in my sump (the wood was shelter for the nic pair while they were in my sump waiting for Teejay's tank to be done) so the leaves were dieing off a little. It will bounce back soon if he decides he wants to keep it.

The tank and stock is looking great. I am really glad she pulled through, she had me worried for a minute. I only laugh because I have been there so many times. I get like that right after fish ship in, I alway dip home on lunch and check on them. Honestly it's refreshing to see someone care that much

Once that wood sinks we will get the tank scaped for you and it will look like a completely different tank.

Those are some serious anubias.. I'd like to have a bunch myself.. never grew anything submerged well other than some pygmy chains and stem plants. Though I was also going very very low tech.

I'm with you, I'm terrible with plants and kill everything but anubias which are very low tech. This is what it looked like on that same wood before I moved it into my dark sump. Pretty decent sized. I cut it in half two or three times over the years and gave the halfs to others. I had it at over 28" tall at one point in time in my old 220g before I cut it down.
