Update on the pond. Been keeping an eye out because of the cold. The other morning water temp read 59.6 degrees. Somehow everyone lived through this. Tonight I went out to feed and while trying to get the aro some food I look down and there's the big cat under my hand saying feed me. I almost fell in laughing. Of course he then took down a couple of shrimp and was quite happy. So far so good.

Ha gotta love cats, always hungry.

Should start warming up by the weekend, I think our "winter" is just about over. Found a 10' frame pool on ebay, $75. Plan on snagging that and then getting started digging (I'm gonna sink it). Checking out solar heating options (either commercial or DIY) but worst case I put my turtles in and some natives and enjoy it.

What do you think about this option to keep your pond warmer at the cost of ugliness?

http://www.solarsunrings.com/

Looks like they just float on the surface and is "solar powered" in that the sun just beats down on them and they collect heat.

It is quite ugly and my pond does not receive that much full sun. Lot of possible issues with it. Getting caught in the out flow, intake, fish using it for sunbathing, etc.

30's in Pinellas County. This is not why I am in Florida.

Two mornings in a row with water temp below 60. Remove covers and the only one not swimming around is the big cat. Instead he found the pipe that holds the heater and sat on it for warmth. I understand he did offer to keep any of the smaller fishes snug and warm also.

My sisters are shivering in melbourne... poor things.. hope it warms up for you though.. that is a worry..
