Hello, I'm new to the keeping of Large Cichlid species, and need help with my stocking.

The size of my tank is :
120 cm (length) 60 cm (width) and 60 cm (height)

My current plan of stocking is :
- 1 Electric Blue Jack Dampsey (Male)
- 1 Green Terror (Female)

I heard that Green terror and EBJD had similiar temperament. I know a breeder that willing to sold me both fish with the size of 8-10 cm.

Can those 2 cichlids live together? Can i keep other fish with them? If so, can you give me some recommendation (cichlids and non cichlids)?

Thank you

Ps ; sorry for my butchered english, its not my first language.

Welcome aboard

It will be a challenge to keep 2 Cichlids because eventually one will dominate the weakest of the 2. Personally with the size of your aquarium I would choose 1 of the 2.

Hello thank you for your input.

So, should I put a pair of female and male EBJD in there? Or could I put a more docile kind of cichlid such as Blue Acara?

Can i put a non cichlid fish in there? And can plants such as Anubias and Java Vern survive?

Thx again

Before getting a large cichlid or any large fish I would encourage you first 'cycle' the tank . This means you create conditions in which your filter(s) media colonize with enough beneficial bacteria to convert all the ammonia your fish will produce into nitrite and then into nitrate. Ammonia is extremely toxic and fish produce a lot of it ... especially large fish.

This takes a long time for the bacteria to grow as it only grows on surfaces ... almost entirely in your filter, canister or sump media. Starter bacteria products in bottles claiming to instantly cycle your tank or cycle your tank in days are making false or misleading claims. However, they can speed up the process under the right conditions.

If you'd like help on how to cycle your tank, I'd search this forum and/or ask.

Hi, thx for your reply

I'm had the tank cycling sinve october, as I'm planning to get the cichlids end of desember, or the start of January. Is that enough??

Also, in the tank of my size..can I keep a pair of EBJD in my tank? I heard that I need to put at least 3, to spread out the agression., but I only wants a pair.

Hi thx for your reply.

So I had decided to have a pair of EBjD (male and female), but is it okay? Many told me that I need to put at least 3 to spread out the agression. (The tank size in cm 120×60×60).

Also, I had kept denison barbs for a long time..can I put them with the EBJDs? There are already very big, and I dont think the EBJd can eat them (they're very fast, LOL).

What about electric blue acara? Can i keep them with the EBJds?

Thx for your time

One proven pair and the Denison Barbs. You could get 4 small EBJD to growout and once 2 paired off then get rid of the 2 others. Tbh your aquarium is not large enough for both EBJ and the EBA.
