probably true.. but the exaggeration was to make a point..no matter the "legal" or constitutional issues some may fear the govt. is imposing (somebody always has to cry out like chicken little, it wouldn't be a discussion without that group heard from).. the NAME REDSKINS... is as offensive to enough of the population(more than a handful of protesters) as the N- WORD was to many 50- 60 yrs ago....and the defense that it isn't offensive to all native Americans is no more valid than saying some African- Americans didn't find the N - word offensive...
Just wondering but did you guys always find the name offensive over the years while you were enjoying the games or is it a recent realization.
not when I was very young.. but.. WHEN OTHER TEAMS(STANFORD , ST JOHNS ,ECT.) were changing in the 80's it started to bug me a little...probably a lot less though than the "constitutional" crowd that thinks this is about CURRENT govt...the earlier stuff was done in an era run by the "other guys"..... where were all the constitutional types then ?(probably waiving victory pom pom's at election time?)
But it is not for a government agency to decide. I won't have a problem if NFL force the issue, like NBA forced the issue with sterling. I have a huge problem when government steps in and tell people what is unacceptable.

I don't think the government told Standford to change its name. The student body wanted it changed. And in some other cases, the ncaa did, it is the governing body similar to NBA or nfl; not some government organization that has nothing to do with this.

sure it is .. there are always people who want the govt to mind their own business ... right up until they need a cop , or their house is on fire...then you want em to leave you alone.?????.. btw lets get back to the NON PROFIT STATUS OF THE NFL... they get all those tax breaks associated with non profit status WHILE making billions(per team)...and your gonna cry about a NICKNAME?... I think CANADA might want ya...how do you think the civil rights issues of the 60's were settled THE FEDERAL GOVT sent troops to the south and stopped a bunch of corrupt politicians from being corrupt...THAT IS THE GOVERNMENTS FIRST JOB..."TO PROTECT IT'S POPULATION"..including from racist actions....pretty basic AMERICAN CIVICS 101
go back and look it up.. the govt . forced the ncaa (as a non-profit) to comply ....wanna make the same mistake rmkblades did ..and BET ME?
