What about the unlv running rebels the confederate flag is on most logos. Those are not derogatory at all (sarcasm). I think it is stupid to remove team mascot names just because it offend a small percentage. It's like let's do away with milk because it's offend lactose intolerant peoples stomach.

That’s my point and what I was trying to get across. You look at the Hitmen logo and think nothing of it. Just a name and a logo, nothing more. Being Italian it conjures up thoughts of Al Capone, the Chicago outfit, bootlegging, racketeering, the St. Valentines day massacre. That’s exactly how I view the name Redskins when I see it, just a name and a logo nothing more. My sensitivity or lack there of has nothing to do with it, it’s all perception. If I didn’t bring it to your attention you had no idea that it might be construed as derogatory to me or why it would be. If I found the name Hitmen as an anti-Italian slur would they change the name?

But a hitman could by the guy i found on Craigslist and paid 500 to off my wife or any random video game character. the words Chicago hitman doesn't in anyway direct it toward the Italian community. Is there any mistake on what a redskin is? we're not even referencing the redskin logo, it's the word. The logo isn't a slur, the word is. The hitman could just redraw their logo or use an C or and H or a gun and move on with their lives....just like the golden state warriors no longer use Native American imagery
Also, it having no meaning to you could be said for any slur or slang. If we accept that fact that diff people find diff things offensive it should be easy to see why some people might find some things offensive.
To be honest, it don't effect me one way or another but it's an interesting societal/sports debate

I see it as this... Would you take offence if it was "Washington (your racial slur here)". I'm sure everyone would. In this very case I understand the name change. Just about any other name, I would think its silly to change something that has been there for many many years.
Oh and before i forget, ray rice facing 4-6 game suspension.
