Nicaraguense pair. Fry! Updated better pics 09/05/07

Thanks for the tip. I'll throw some more stuff in there. Should I remove the female after there are eggs?

I would just keep a close watch, sometimes one parent will keep the other away from the eggs/fry. Maybe throw in some giant danios to act as dither/target fish, so both parents will focus on them.

Not a bad idea. I will be getting dithers for my pbass tomorrow, I'll get some for the Nics too.

The bigger fish is the male. The female will top out at about 5" and the male at about 10". Nics are cool, have had breeders. do a 50% water change, put temp at about 80, and sit back and relax. It may take a while with the new environment. Also feed them Romane lettuce, or Kelp that is fed to salt water fish. It will bring out the colors and such.

Finally happened. I've got a pile of eggs. Have no idea what to do about it.

It is the best to leave the eggs with the parents. Nic's eggs are non-adherent which can be easily transported.

You probably already know that they are very easy to breed a flower pot will normally do the trick. BTW, female gets bigger than 5".

Eggs are in a flower pot now. I have other cichlids in the tank though, so I think the fry will not make it.

which is which?
i believe the males have mega spotting on the fins and usually less of a body stripe. more like a diamond.

I've got wigglers! I have no idea how I am going to deal with it though. I have a Red Devil, a Jag, and a Frontosa in there. Will the parents keep the fry from roaming?
