Alright I tried a ton of stuff and am still coming up empty. I've got some new ideas but as for now here is what i've failed with.
1. Crankbaits - First trip early november. Nothing but wet lures. I tried a bunch a retrieval methods and speeds but never got a look.
2. Homemade Catfish Bait - twice, late november, early december. It was rank as it gets, some highlights were the funky ass cheese, garlic salt, syrup, bread, nasty soy sauce, shredded cotton balls, lime juice, chocolate syrup. It may have had some nibbles but no serious takers.
3. Hot Dog - I was sure this would work but no, no it didn't. I even tried to add some of the catfish bait to it, which may have pissed the fish off.
4. Soft Plastic Worms - Tried many different retrievals, no good results to speak of.
5. Worms - Early December. Many worms died in vain for me to figure out that worms were not working.
I have looked around the internet for tips and Im reading that jigs with skirts retrieved slowly may be effective for pulling all sorts of diiferent fish in the winter. Im going to try, but whether it works between 10pm to 3pm at night remains to be seen. I may try different times because I need to catch something to feel like Im not wasting my time. I'm worried that the lake isn't the best place to go, that possibly it's to big, or I'm in the wrong area or something. I have included a map of it where I highlighted in red the spots that we fish. If anyone can speak on how my location may be good or bad in relation to the lake please let me know. This lake is big as hell and I can give you specifics in regards to what the underwater terrain is like where we go. I am really pressing to get my buddy his first fish. He keeps coming out because he is enjoying himself either way but I think his first catch would really get him excited. He is usually so lit that he may lose it when he gets the first bite. I also have become more of a worm drowning lush than a fisherman, and I would like to be both. We need some help still, if anyone can help I will appreciate your advice. Thanks too for everyones help from earlier. Even though I haven't had the best of luck I am sure you are all successful with the other methods, i just have some picky fish. If I have any fish at all. Thanks again.
