Night Fishing

Will do. Hopefully Im going to steal my neighbors canoe this friday and try some boat fishing. It's going to be cold as hell so I'm hoping I don't flip that little bastard and end up in the water. I've never canoed a day in my life, so I better make this one count. I'm a little freaked out paddling out on a huge dark ass lake in a little canoe in the middle of the night. Going to be exciting but Im promising myself not to start drinking until I got the hang of it. I'm bringing my buddy too so I won't die alone. Dude can't even swim. Freaky. If I can't get the boat could I get these guys fishing off the shore, or is this definitely a boat deal?

You can get them from shore sure. I'm not a fan of night fishing I hate it, unless I am off the mouth of a creek. I just can't see a thing, and catch plenty of fish during the day that I just don't bother. This isn't the best time of year I think you would of had more luck back in october, but try using a long rod so you can cast far and a floating rapala close to some weed beds.
As for the canoe part maybe you should practice during the day so someone can see you guys if you fall in. Rather than dieing in the night when a musky drags your ass in the water. lol

Thats a really bad idea to try that at night as your first go. Even during the day canoes are difficult. THe fact of hidden obstacles and buddies make everythjing more dangerous. Dont do night canoe fishing unless you are good with canoes to begin with. I don even do night john boat fishing, the crafts are small and the wind push them around like nothing, play it safe. Also over 70 percent of fishing related deaths are due top alcohol dont drink and boat

I appreciate your concern guys. I am reconsidering the idea. Drinking and fishing do work better on the shore. I was planning on wearing lifejackets though, so at least that was a good idea. Either way that water is cold, and if it is hard to canoe I would hate to learn the hardest, coldest way possible. And rockbass I would love to fish in the day again but my wife and I just had our third kid and things are kind of nuts while everyone is awake. It's night or nothing. And honestly even though we aren't catching anything, it's been pretty fun trying all the different methods. I thought the canoe could add a new dimension to the trips but now i've come to see that it very well could just murder me and steve. If I do decide to give it a go despite my better judgement I want to be buried in the bobsled from cool runnings. The jamaican one. Not the nice one, the ****ty one they rode down the street.

Also tell someone where you are and when you sgould come back just in case

My wife knows exactly where we fish when we go out so at least she will have an idea where to locate our bodies. Actually i'm 99.9 percent sure we are going to wait until summer for this one. Maybe get Steve some swimming lessons at the Y. Thanks for talking me down, I didn't respect canoeing properly, who knew it was so easy to flip it? I will post any pike pictures I may get in the next week or so.

Yeah they are really easy to flip, once we hit a underwater bracnh with the tip while crusing at a angle and knocked my cousin out of the canoe.

My GF's family has a lake house on chataqua lake, i've pulled out decent bull head and sun fish but never had the opportunity to go for the big monsters! (by monsters i mean musky) from what i've read there all by her side of the lake (she lives on the far side of the lake away from chataqua institute and closer to jamestown) i wonder how the fishing is by the bridge. Also her uncle lives in Northeast and has a steam in his back yard that rightt now has about 20-30 salmon just hanging out.
