Any results? I'm in consideration.

No idea since I changed my stock but my Nitrates are lower

I am leaning towards setting up a planted/shrimp tank in the 40b just for the sake of it being more interesting to watch the shrimp breed etc..

Sounds like a great idea.

My pothos is growing like a weed right now in my sump. I gotta believe that it's the way to go for this type of filtration... but, I've failed to take any readings whatsoever.....

I have moved over to solely aquatic plants would not recommend the bamboo. Also have some ghost shrimp in the 4b now gonna get a little breeding colony going

Pshha, good luck with the ghosts. I just got done failing with them and am now trying red cherry shrimp. From your experience, do plants reduce enough nitrate to make it worth it? I'm thinking of doing something with pothos.

Pothos grows like crazy. I highly recommend. Am having to trim fairly frequently now. I haven't measured nitrites, but I gotta think that they're sucking a bunch out of the water as it grows so rapidly. Look up firemedic's experiment with pothos. He yielded good results, too.

I have tried pothos before and it seemed much better than the bamboo. I put a peru sp. wolf fish in the 40 breeder so my ghost shrimp colony was short lived but I have some java moss in there that is growing pretty well

I have theories that the bamboo (Ivy) may have had a negative effect on rays when its stalks where damaged and submerged but no real hard facts to back it up. That is why I am sticking to aquatic plants now
