Northern Snakeheads Found in Delaware Pond

You have a point with the koi, but one at a time. Snakeheads, are invasive and run the threat of ruining ecosystems. You have no idea what snakeheads can do. You don't know if snakeheads can survive in Florida. I'd rather not find out. Common pleco's pretty much ruined some bodies of water around my area, and they don't even attack the fish, just the eggs. The fact that if you were to catch a snakehead and not report it, it would be a waste of money all together wouldn't it? I mean, Wildlife enforcement officers or w/e are paid to keep invasives out. If you do find a snakehead and don't report it, you run the risk of ruining an ecosystem because you don't agree with some law. As dumb as these laws are, they are made for a reason. I don't understand people like you. Just because one creature is more threatening then the other, you would ignore the less threatening one.
Cobra snakeheads live in Florida waterways. I was talking about the red snakehead. These cannot survive in Florida. They are tropical, and will not survive Florida's winter. There are lots of species that will survive in Florida, but they are all very small species. There are lots of laws that don't make sense. For example, in New York, piranhas are illegal because they are afraid of piranhas escaping and breeding. I'm sure they will, with the snow and freezing temperatures in the winter. It's people that are not very educated with fish. I'm also not ignoring less threatening fish. But why the hell are koi legal to purchase when they are so destructive? You see them in waterways all over the US. I'm not telling you to break the law. What I mean is for people to think and reason. There are tons of stupid laws that need to be changed. That's why our country is in deep trouble today.

Agreed with Fish_Sauce! Northern Snakehead is less threatening and only affect the ecosystem very small (all they do is eat small fishes which is no different from largemouth bass and northern pike in Westen United States where they are not native to). Common and Asian carps are worst invasives in the history. Common pleco's closer to the carps but they are not cold tolerant.

Thank you!!!! They don't walk on land and they don't eat small pets like the media says. The only thing that the media is right about, is that they breathe air. Snakeheads are labyrinth fish that breathe air. Labyrinth fish also include gouramis and bettas. So does that mean that your average gourami and betta should be illegal also because they breathe air? Absolutely not. Why don't these "experts" that our tax dollars pay, (actually my parents because I'm overseas at the moment) do their job and get rid of really bad invasives that actually do damage.

I you want to get rid of the snakeheads and other invasive species from somewhere safelly get a bunch of fisher men to overfish them realising all native fish.
You can't overfish silver carp in the US. They are reproducing and spreading at a rate so fast, that even commercial fishermen, catching them by the tons everyday, will not even make a dent in their population. That's why it's such a serious problem. And the reason you don't see this in the newspaper? Because silver carp don't have teeth, and they don't have menacing pictures of silver carp to show in the papers. Remember, a reporter's job is to sell papers, not to tell you the actual truth.

Mods please close, I couldn't make it past the first page, this is the worst thread ever created and has no point to it.

Actually I think the combined force of several commercial fishing groups + sport and other fishermen could drastically reduce the population of just about any fish.
