Northfin food

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can only base my opinion on the facts at hand, both now, and what has been posted in the past. From where I sit, kmuda just doesn't grasp the BIG picture, and like usual, has his so called facts all funged up. At present there is no EQ ban in the EU, if you read what I posted here previously (post #211) I believe there is a link that states they are still in the EQ testing phase in the EU, AND thus far, this possible ban is only directed at feed products that are destined for human consumption. No one has uttered a single word about food destined for the pet trade. And that's IF this ban even takes place. If they can remove or even reduce the potential cancer causing substance that is found in EQ, the ban talk may very well come to an abrupt end. And while levels of preservatives can fluctuate between batches (one thing that kmuda is correct about) I have never seen or heard of any pet food formula, dog, cat, monkey, fish, or otherwise, ever containing a whopping 300+ ppm ethoxyquin, and I have been following the EQ crusade for approx. 30 years.

My theory is that Darius et al have read every word posted here, and have scrambled to clean up their act. IMO, that's a good thing. Unfortunately the trust factor will be long gone for many of his past customers. No matter how one slices it I can't imagine that this has helped boost sales.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice ......

Is there such a thing as preservative free fish food, other than nitrogen flush/vacuum packed?

Here is my picture of an Australian Arowana ( jardini) that is now 30 years old. He is strong and robust as ever fed on commercially available fish foods that I assume contains ethoxyquin. Started out with Tetra Doro Red, then on to Hikari bio gold and now currently on silversides, NLS and freeze dried Krill. Looking at the longevity of my fish and his robustness I am not convinced at how important and harmful eq really is. I am glad that NLS has a new choice with an all natural food . I can only think that this will be better for my old fellow.

Nice aro. That's not the issue though. NF claimed no eq but tested off the charts.

Well it looks like we finally have an update.

Northfin took down their old website, and put up a new one. Some of the old claims have been removed regarding being preservative free, they are now stating that some of their raw ingredients are preserved with Naturox, while some of their krill meal may be preserved with ethoxyquin. (gasp)

https://www.northfin.com/product-info/

*Note: NorthFin Fry Starter and Soft Coral Food may contain Naturox® (Rosemary Extract) or Ethoxyquin which are antioxidants used by one of NorthFin’s suppliers of Antarctic Krill.

Thanks to everyone that took part in this discussion.

So they're implying that their foods (other than Fry Starter and Soft Coral) no longer contain Ethoxyquin? Has anyone done any tests to confirm this claim?
