Not another 'Guess what's in the bag?' thread.... lol

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Anyway, DMD123 DMD123 any new pic, :D
Not much has changed in the lap but the poor little ansorgii is getting nailed hard. Side fins have some bites and frayed on the edges. Been feeding twice a day to keep the lap full and happy but he is just a butt head and goes at the ansorgii a lot. As soon as parasite treatment is over they are going into the 300. Too much one on on in that little tank and no place for the little ansorgii to run to. Plus Croc is a beast and will put the lap in its place real quick.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this in here, but as Toyin told me, the fish he has recently gotten in as faranah laps resemble the fish he got in as sp. Dabola before faranah fish were offered. So there's a good chance that is what a few years ago, we would've considered sp. Dabola.

Also don't necessarily thinks it's true that there's always a darker/green cope covering the patterns. I think it's just the darker bottoms/environment the ones you posted pics of are in. I know I got the same fish as DMD and mine is relatively lighter than the ones you posted pics of. But I do agree with the assessment that this fish looks similar to the fish we've gotten used to as sp. Daboa.

I have this same fish. I took this pic below yesterday. The transparent green coverage over the markings does exist. It appears DMD fish is doing the same. Its more apparent when looking at the ganoid scales in person than it does in a photo. It's hard to explain it into words. You just have to see the fish in person.

Just my strong opinion here. It's not fair for us hardcore hobbyists to accept the Faranah umbrella where the differences are too vast, i.e. your fish, DMD, Haos, and mine. I got mine as a Dabola. You, Hao, and DMD got it under the faranah lap label (umbrella). So, this new faranah lap label that's coming in has dominant traits of an Endli? Almost 80-95% towards what we know as endli.

Lol wait o now we are saying sp. dabola and dabola are the same fish ? I thought sp.dabola was wither a natural hybrid of endli and lap or maybe a seperate species and well endli dabola is a wc endli caought near dabola

This is what we traditionally know as a Faranah Lap. This is a nice one by the way.

That picture is what I had always considered a Faranah lap. So when I ordered a 'Guinea' lap I was not really expecting what I got but more of a .... dont know how to say it but 'Guinea' lap, lol.

What I got I like a lot! BUT its head looks blocky compared to the pic of the Faranah lap. And it seems I had seen the type of lap that Vancouver_98683 Vancouver_98683 and I have marked as sp. dabola in the past. Really not trying to argue anything just interested in how the names come about .

Yes, Sp, Dabola and Dabola (Same) is believed to be a natural hybrid of endli and Lap, or possibly it's own specie. In the U.S. it is not marketed that way. In japan they do mention that it. Of course, no science to back it up at this point.

Not to confuse this with Endli. Endli is labeled based off the supposed area/river they're caught. Ex. Dabola, Faranah, Volta, Guinea, Nigeria, and few others.
