Thanks for the kind words. I to have left the water on the first year we had the pond. I woke up around midnight heard the faint sound of the water faucet running and jumped out of bed to turn it off. I was lucky and didn't lose any fish at the time. My wife names everything we have from our koi to our stingrays. When she would tell people about them she used there names like they were part of the family. The silver dragon scale in the pics name was lightening. He was a 4 inch walmart rescue koi. He had a good life cause he was my biggest eater and was right at 10 inches from just one years time.

That's actually happened to me awhile ago. My Dad was topping off the pond and forgot to turn off the hose. Lost all but 3 Koi and the Channel Cats.

you must have some really bad water!
my pond mysteriously drained 2 weeks ago (down to aboue 6" of water, 1180gal) and i just filled it up with the hose. no conditioners or anything.
idk. out water here must be pretty good. cause ive always changes tank water the same way...
sorry for you loss though. that really sucks!

Oh thats awful for you. We are so lucky as we have no chlorine in our water. I never have to add anything to our tanks.
i feel bad for your wife.. it is so easy to be forgetful when you have alot on your mind... i learned along time ago to always check and double check... stall doors for horses...lids on the fish tank... lights out ..lights on... 
you get neurotic after awhile but it works...very sorry for your loss.
