Hey all, I am now the proud owner of a 1000 galllon acrylic tank and stand. (at least I thinks its 1000 gallon) Got it at a university auction. It is 1.5 in thick on the sides, 1/2 in thick on the bottom with 3/4 marine plywood between acrylic and stand, and 1 in thick on the top with 2 large openings for access. Tank is 4ft wide, 4ft Tall, and 8 ft long and about a 150 gallon sump.

Stand is made of 4inx4in square tube steel, 6 legs. The easy part was getting it on the trailer, forklift no issue, hard part was when I got home. I was able to get the stand into my garage with my tractor and a boom pole, but now I have no idea how to get the aquarium on the stand, the tractor can not lift it. The Stand is 3ft tall, so with the aquarium on top, it will be 7ft high.

I have the tank on a small trailer now, and was thinking of building a platform out of concrete bricks and 6x6 beams. Use floor jacks to raise it 1 foot at a time, then replace beams and blocks and go another foot up. Once I get it level with the stand, well i havn't figured that out yet either. I will get some pics posted tomorrow. I just wanted to see what yall thought. Or, try to get it in the bed of a pickup, then roll it on pieces of 1 inch PVC pipe onto the stand.

Thanks!

Welcome to MFK!
We like pictures :)
I think your onto something with the jacking method. It shouldn't be to hard to push the tank onto the stand once they are the same hight. Might even be able to push it with your tractor or pull it onto the stand with a come-a-long rig.

Yep, I'll get the pics up when I get off work. I tried the friends route, but we had 6 people on it, and couldn't lift, heck, it took 6 just to budge it sideways. As far as fish, well im not sure, any suggestions? I like planted tanks, and when we were at the Omaha zoo, i seen some huge pacus, thought it may be interesting to build a south american tank, maybe red catfish, and other interesting guys. Then again, I also really like cichlids.

I don't think I am going to go the salt route, as salt creep on my 120 was quite a problem, i can't imagine multiplying that out.

I think putting the tank on the stand should be video taped and set to benny hill music, cause i know it will be interesting.

do you even have enough room for a stand?

My 500 gal all glass is sitting on 4x4 because I didn't trust a stand to take the weight.

1000 gals of water is roughly 10 tones + tank weight and structures...

Mine is currently resting at 7.5 tones

awesome bargain. look forward to pics,

how much did you pay for that? (if you dont mind me asking)

i would have thought lots more friends would be the best bet, i would of thought you would be able to get 10-12 people around it, lots of muscle means lighter work,.

otherwise maybe hire a crane, or forklift??
i was qouted £150 to crane my 150 gallon into my third floor flat, might be a bigger crane required for yours lol.

good luck, and consider me subscribed.

Holy crap. Thank god its acrylic ! Do provide photos !

Without seeing its hard to say but I would build a platform and use rollers. I move a lot of heavy stuff on rollers (dowel rods would probably work best on that). Once you get it rolling just keep placing rollers in front of it. You can even go up a grade with a ratchet as a comealong and to keep it going down hill. A little planning and a couple of guys that aren't antsy and pushy should get it done. Don't rush.
