I found some bricks that are very narrow. About 1.5" high that are divided into three sections that form caves. They look like they would make awesome pleco caves if their depth were to be cut down some. They currently look to be about 1.5"H X 2" wide per cave (x 3) but the over all pieces are about 15" wide. Is regular brick inert? Should I worry they may leech undesirable chemical/ compounds into my water? I don't know if brick formula is close to terra cotta but I see people use that all the time. I ran into a butt load of these. The caves would be in groups of three horizontally. What do you my fellow hobbyists think or have to contribute?

Thanks:naughty:,:naughty:

That would definately done. I was just wondering if anyone knew actual ingredients of old bricks. Like do they contain any by products that might leech into water. Or are they inert like...........glass.

i've used bricks in my tanks with no problems. and not cement bricks, think they were more of a clay

Post pics of the brick. Terra Cotta would be OK, cementitious bricks would raise the pH.

Ok, I think it is worth pursuing. I'll take a pic of these oddball bricks tomorrow and post. I've never posted a pic other than an avatar so I might have to ask how lol. Chances are I'll figure it out though. I think they would be great pleco caves. They are red and I am guessing some sort of clay was involved in making them not concrete. Also there is a brick factory about 3 miles from my house.
