I still think it's tight 2 Face Harvey! I have seen this as well in the same thread bOOstin is reffering to. I do think this is the PIEBALD gene as Tongue pointed out as well at least that's what I thought when I seen it the first time. As for the information that Superlaz has giving I had never heard of this situation before, but that sound's very interesting to say the least. So hard dammage done of course by they way they handle themselves when establishing rank is the result of what we see here? I could entertain that also because I have always wondered what were the long term effect's of taking a Hard Blow like that from a much larger fish?

wonder what would happen if you put him in a different tank?
if a piebald gene, then we need to breed it.
the way that line goes down the middle of its face remind me of those piranhas with the purple line down the middle, awesome!

Yes, Laz, mine did look similar. It was a clear cut black spot. Maybe a little smaller than that, but the fish was smaller too. He acted VERY weird for 2 or 3 months after that. It started going away, then he died...

Here are the pictures. Not quite as extreme as your case. May be something different. I believe his COD was that he was a bit weak from not eating for a few weeks, then a 950gph power head pushed his head into a hole in a a piece of drift wood, then folded his tail over that got caught under another piece of the wood, pinning him in. With normal strength, I believe he would have been able to get out.
