Odd Question for MFK: Catfish for a 23 Gallon?

Are you sure they get that big? Most info on the net says 7-10 inch. Ive questioned a few actual people who've owned them and all have said they never got over 7 inch.

Im not trying to insult you or anything, Im just asking a curious question. I also agree, a jag cat is not suitable for a 29 gal.

Glass catfish grow to 6 inches max only and are community fish. You haven't answered my question for tank dimensions yet.

Keep the glass catfish with corydoras and small plecos.

The tank I am looking at may be about 3 feet x 16 inches x 13 inches.

That's big enough. If you're looking for plecos, look for ones that reach 6 inches max although with whiptails, 8 inches is fine. Just get them twiggy woods to camouflage around.

Sorry. Mistake. The tanks dimensions are actually 2 feet x 16 inches x 16 inches.

That's 27 gallons. Stick with the L010a or the Sturisoma panamense. Contact Angel Ampil also known as fishyguy in PALHS if you want them. Not sure if he still has them.

My point is, I would rather hear that a fish reach that size by an actual aquarist who owned one of that size. Alot of times sites on the web are inaccurate or copy and paste from one another. Im just kinda curious thats all. I would like to hear more from people who have owned them. The few I have talked to said no larger than 7 inch. So I will believe that until theres proof of one larger.


But back on topic, bottom line this catfish isnt suitable for this tank.

I am sure that REPUTED websites pull that info out of thin air. Just because YOU haven't talked to a person who personally saw a jag reach a size larger than 7" doesn't mean it can't happen. I see your point, but your logic is flawed.

Regardless, the jag isn't suited for such a small tank.

I wouldn't go with glass cats. They should be kept in a small group to be kept well. If you want to have other species in the tank, glass cats are not the way to go.

I know that they need to be kept in groups. Which is why I was asking if it was possible.

Also, are the commonly seen glass cats Kryptopterus Bicirrhis or Kryptopterus Minor?

Planet Catfish says that they're actually Minor rather than Bicirrhis.
