Oddballs for a 30 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Personally I think bichirs get too big for a 30. Leopard ctenopomas would be fine; there are several other cool species in the genus, but they aren't as common.

I've had Ctenopoma that nip fins, so I think that varies on the individual fish, but some do nip fins
thats crazy to hear I have 9 ctenopomas and none of them fin nip I've had them with long finned black skirt tetras and long finned rosy barbs and no problems. Probably depends on the layout of the tank(enough hiding spots and tank size) and the individual fish.

the one I had was terribly aggressive towards a larger chocolate cichlid and Satanoperca

Hmm heres my setup idea:

1 x Peacock eel
2 x African Butterfly Fish
8 x Blind Cave Tetras

=D Altough you do already have danios?Hmm That might be a bit overstocked then...

Also a colourful FEMALE betta splendens might make a nice addition =P

Maybe it was trying to eat them:ROFL:

Have never had or seen an agressive ctenopoma before, they have always been shy and retiring fish.

maybe he just had a badd sweet tooth.
Well mine was aggressive to my Pike Bellycrawler when I first got him and then the Pike outgrew him within 3 weeks and was the dominant fish in the tank and picked on the big cten all the time so I had to get rid of him  That pike was one hell of a eater and was a really active swimmer.

I would get 3 Senegalus Bichir...they max at around 12" so that will do for the 30 gallon dimension being 12" in width. I think the Tire Track Eel will outgrow the 30 gallon though....
no this wouldnt work. Only one senegal in a 30g.

what are some nice fish tht are good 4 a 45
