ive also heard that feeders are high in fat.. and hold almost no real nutrition.. i fed my oscars shrimp, krill, worms, crickets, bugs, spiders, bloodworms, and he loved some veggies like zucchini and pumpkin.. (i was feeding the pleco and he hogged it). guess they will eat almost anything you put in there..i also fed a treat two times a week of a frozen cube of stuff-id switch it up. i never used feeders.

Just FYI-feeder fish are a really bad idea. They're not good nutrition plus they bring in lots of different diseases. Ich is one thing but once you've dealt with columnaris, lymphocystis, anchor worms or one of the others you'll change your mind in a hurry.

I only buy those 1-2 times a month. The rest of the time I feed them pellets. My oscar like shrimp too, should I feed them those instead?

:) You're missing the point. It only takes ONE feeder fish ONCE with a disease to potentially wipe out your tank. It's playing Russian Roulette.

all my tanks smell. not around, but when i lift the lid i get a strong smell then it goes away in about 10 seconds...
what i dont understand is how you remove half the gravel but have no gravel in the tank?

I dont understand why you would remove your gravel. First reason being you took out some of the BB that called it home, and second it looks super ghetto. (thats my opinion) Like I said before, if your parameters are okay then its a normal fish tank smell.

run some charcoal to try and remove the odor..i use purigen in my canisters and love it..

Charcoal is worthless if you stick to your water change schedules, my opinion is get rid of it and put more bio media in there.

haynchinook334 has a bare bottom tank and it looks nice... I got rid of the rocks because they were holding so much waste and dirt that it was useless to try and clean it with my vacuum. Its like no matter how much I tried I could never get it clean so i just decided to remove it. It is alot easier to clean now and I can actually get all the waste and dirt with the vacuum.

have you ever used sand? i looove it, and oscars would love it too. you dont syphon it like gravel-the poop just sits on top. when you go to suction it just sweep the end of the hose about an inch over the poop-and its gone! lol... you just need to run your hands through the sand to release trapped gases every week or so..

sand is super easy, and a good place for your BB.. your fish would love it
