chad, why did you want ur LMB or Bowfin? its the point of having it and controling the way it lives. id do the same thing. see how big i could grow it and be able to see some topwater feeding action whenever i wanted...(thats why i put a bagillion bluegill in my pond) and put some cool bottom feeders like a big channel cat or flathead that yo'd never ge to see from a boat or walking the bank.

for the return, i think it would be cool to dig out like a little creek and make it flow pretty good, so it look like you have a spring in ur yard feeding the lake.

No no noooo you misunderstood me! I completely understand why he would want to keep the bass. I just dont see what the point of recirculating it would be though.

Chad

i am not even going to answer what you just said, that is one of the most hypocritcal things i have ever heard, if u are such a good "fish keeper" and love nature so much, you would not even have any fish.

Ummm..what??? First of all I keep in captivity fish not regularly native to my area..If I keep a fish native to my area it is for a damn good reason. Second I keep many fish for different reasons. I have fish in my possession that are extinct in the wild and others that are common as dirt..I do not keep these to stroke my ego I keep them for a planed reason. I do not just keep animals for fun and personal gain. I actually work with them. Do not try to pigeon hole me to the usual fish keeper as that is not me. I'm not a business usual hobbyist that knows nothing about anything..I've actually worked for my knowledge both in the field and the fishroom. I do not ask people for help anywhere and you will never see me do so. I find answers myself. I do some things for myself and do not care for input. I study nature in the wild as it should be long before I take it into captivity.

Sorry I stay with my assessment:
OK I now fully understand why the generations after me have no connection to nature..They are too damn lazy and selfish to enjoy it as it is.

You all are very spoiled and really ignorant....Some of you get it but the rest of you are criminally ignorant.

Sorry if I ruffle feathers but some of you really need a fricking reality check and really need to stop giving advice when your advice is nothing but ignorant ramblings..I hate having to pull the experience level thing but you people are beyond hope most of the time. I see no choice.

I just hope some of you listen and understand that some of us are not 12 years old and talking out of our ass just to be cool among peers. Some of us actually know our **** and will stand by it.

first off dont ever call me spolied, i have worked for my fish hobbey for over 4 years...its people like you who make younger generations not like nature by saying this "OK I now fully understand why the generations after me have no connection to nature..They are too damn lazy and selfish to enjoy it as it is. " im pretty sure if u were my age and somelike you said that you would be pissed to. your way to full of urself.

Your taking all the factors that i said and saying i am going to do it. I personaly never said i was going to get a bass, i said i might. You should prob check where you get your fish to im pretty sure most of them are from the wild.

get ahold of yourself and growup.

My above statement really is not about you..It is about those here that do not even bother to think and somehow think it is just fine to make a mini aquaculture facility and dump effluent from in back into public waters. It is also those that think owning and controlling things is the way to go...I disagree strongly with this way of thinking..

My only question to you was "why would you want a pond if you already have a lake? "

As for my fish I do know where they are from and yeah most are wild caught..Here is the difference though, Of my wild caught fish: 50% I caught myself, 25% where caught by fellow responsible Native fish people and 25% where collected specially as they are not in the hobby. I can tell you where all my fish come from down to river drainage and specific location.

also who ever said i was going to pump the water back? i probly wont, cuase i dont have the money for a big pump like that, they can be really expensive.

This is really the problem here. Most here thought having your pond interact with the lake was a GOOD idea. You sure didn't seem to think it was a bad idea.....You said:
ha thats not a bad idea...but what if when putting alittle gas in the boat or something it spills...? then goes into the pond also does anyone know what size pump it would have to be? becuase to bring it up alittle hill it would have to be powerful
and still don't think it's a bad idea since you say:
i probly wont, cuase i dont have the money for a big pump like that, they can be really expensive.

Not to mention this reply:
i was thinkin of gettin a sturgeon(sterlet)...

In short...you want to make a pond that illegally interacts with a lake AND introduce fish from another country? This is wrong on just about every level.

Long and short of the issues here: Some here discuss many activities that are illegal plain and simple (ignorance of the law is not an excuse). It's not just the law that you should think about.....It's the wild fish you put in danger when these activities are implemented. Some here recognize the impact of these actions and point them out. In many cases we're called " big pooper" among other things. Why do you name call when someone rains or your illegal parade? Why not just sit down, cool out and learn from the posts instead of trying to defend every single silly (Illegal) idea that gets posted.

Is this the epitome of arrogance or could there possible be someone, somewhere more out of touch with reality? Where do you think you are posting? This website is called monsterfishkeepers.com. You seem to think you are posting on a professional scientific website. The vast majority of people on here keep fish for fun. Whether that fun is in the form of simple watching or learning or whatever is really none of your business. Keep your proletariat views to yourself. Who are you to judge why anyone here keeps fish? Thank god you do not work for the state, as fascists like yourself tend to cause a lot of problems for us "criminally ignorant." If you truly want to help educate people, perhaps you should work on your people skills. Calling someone’s idea “stupid” in your first post tends to put people on the defensive. Teleost has a much more subtle and friendly way of talking to people.

“Stand by it”...”pull the experience level thing”...how do you plan to do that when you won't tell us what your occupation is? Here's an earlier post that some might appreciate:

But for the fun of it I googled your signature, "MIDWEST AQUATICS RESEARCH". What a surprise! There were two hits! But they both were from this forum. Dang. Maybe your catchy description of what your company does would yield more info. Hey, "Specialists in 'Anachronistic' fishes and 'Parasitic' Aquatic predator Husbandry." didn't return any hits. NONE! Either you are a complete phony, or your company is so insignificant as to not even have a web presence. 5th graders at least have a myspace page.

Since you are unwilling to reveal your supposed expertise, perhaps you should stop saying you're an expert. You fall into the same category as untold thousands of "experts" populating various websites on various subjects, simple to dismiss with a click of a mouse. You say you have revealed your Peter Parker-ish identity to a few of the people on here. With the rest of us "normal" folk, you have precious little credibility.

I would be pretty pissed off about living in Detroit too...

You're chastising the guy for building a pond and "Not enjoying what is already there" but yet you have native species (GAMEFISH in particular) in your tanks? Dude...seriously...shut up.

What makes it ok for YOU to "control" native fish and for the other guy not to by providing them MORE SPACE in a pond than you have in an aquarium??

I've never heard a bigger bunch of s**t in my life. Get off your podium and go get an enema...

lol

this Polypterus guy sure comes off arrogant and full of himself. worst thing about it is he acting like he is in a room full of his supposed "collegeaues". people are here to have fun and exchange ideas.

in any case, he's complaining about people keeping fish native to the area they live and not "appreciating" nature. quick question bro, do you feel the same way about people in HI who keep reef tanks?
